Getting a PC VR Ready

I'm upgrading my PC to be VR ready because I'm ready to drop some money on a Vive. I currently have 12GB of RAM, a i3-4130 and a GTX 1060 6GB by Zotac. I'm already picking up 4GB more of RAM. What processor should I upgrade to? I plan on using Ebay or Craigslist since the LGA1150 platform is older. Any suggestions? Any other generic VR Gaming tips that would help? Thanks!

i7 4790k also make sure you get a good cooler aswell for the CPU.

the i7 7th generation is pretty good for VR. I use and love that CPU.

The Core i5 i5-4430 is always a good choice, might be something worth looking into.

Love was changing the minds of pretenders
While chasing the clouds away

Sweet! If you mind no RGB and know or want to try overclocking then I recommend an aio water cooler such as this.

This isn't a necessity but maybe it would help with having "VR-Ready" IO? The HDMI ports at the front for the headset could be pretty useful.
Also, like others said, the i7 4790k will be good for VR. Aside from that, your specs do look VR ready with that GPU!

Anything on the cheaper side? Do you think I'd be fine with a 4790. I have no intentions of overclocking.

I never thought about the IO. Maybe there's a front 5.25 bay VR insert. My front panel has no HDMI cables ATM.

I highly doubt about the 5.25" VR insert, but you should probably check?

Maybe you can set aside a small budget for a slightly better case with better/more airflow and VR Ready IO?

If you have no intentions of overclocking then I say you would be fine with this. Honestly even that may be too much but I would go with something like that if you want your CPU cool while playing VR games.

The i7 4790 will be good for VR titles. It looks pretty good based on the spec sheet.

get this HDMI extender then you won't need front IO ports you can just have longer cables :)

I think this video might help you in knowing if your PC will run well when playing VR. Your performance will be lower but not by much.

Will the Cooler Master - Hyper 212 EVO work? I forgot to mention that's currently installed.

Yeah, it should. It's a good CPU cooler anyways and you won't need to upgrade it.

Could I step it down to a high end i5? I just not sure VR is too demanding on the CPU and i7s are $$$ besides what I am already spending on the Vive itself.

i5's will work but I'm not 100% sure if it's the best for VR if you're using an older gen. I know for 7th & 8th gen i5's get the job done but not too sure about anything lower than those two generations tbh xD

Alright. I'll weigh it all up. Thanks for all the good info!
