VPNS: Do they protect you on non https web pages?

No it only encrypts the data between your device and the VPN server that it's connected to.

Everything beyond that would not be encrypted if you are visiting a non https page.

Also there is nothing wrong or unsafe for that matter when you visit a non https webpage, the only thing that I would consider unsafe is if it where the login page or if you filled in a form on the page.
