Steam Backup cross platform?

Are steam backups for cross platform games platform independant?

 

or will i need to redownload games on my linux box to try them there?

 

just want to know if i can avoid redownloading 5GB for Forced

You'll have to redownload them, Linux doesn't use .exe natively and so on ^^' sry
