Hi,

My friends and I want to make tesla coil as a physics project. We can't decide about the size of coil. We can have 7.5cm, 5.5cm, 11cm and 12cm (diameter) pvc tube for winding copper wire. We would like to have bigger and taller tesla coil but we can't have more than 12 volt with psu, or maybe 24 with larger car battery but we are not sure will 12 volts be enough for tesla of that size and we want tesla and spark to be strong enough. So give me advices or do you have experiences with that. We saw a lot of videos but we can't see how much volts they use for larger size teslas.

Tnx guys and sorry for my bad english

You'll need to transform that 12 V into a much higher voltage. Be careful though and take proper safety measures :) They can be dangerous. I'd suggest starting small.

Crystal: CPU: i7 7700K | Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix Z270F | RAM: GSkill 16 GB@3200MHz | GPU: Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti FE | Case: Corsair Crystal 570X (black) | PSU: EVGA Supernova G2 1000W | Monitor: Asus VG248QE 24"

Laptop: Dell XPS 13 9370 | CPU: i5 10510U | RAM: 16 GB

Server: CPU: i5 4690k | RAM: 16 GB | Case: Corsair Graphite 760T White | Storage: 19 TB

Also make sure all your copper wire is stripped. Here is a reference of a 12 volt battery Tesla coil. http://www.teslacoildesign.com/construction.html this is a good guide also

We want to make bigger tesla and I want to know how much start voltage do we need

So 12 volt charger should be enough for 75cm by 10 cm tesla coil?

To power it probably, the video above operates on 3 V, but you'll need to up it into the kV range I think with some circuitry. Please just start small, I'm going to keep stressing the danger part. Only go big once you know what you are doing to prevent harm to you and your surroundings: http://www.teslacoildesign.com/operation.html#operation_safety

What wiring, windings etc you need you'll have to do the math yourself. Take a look here http://www.teslacoildesign.com/index.html

If you think 12V is enough even for a small Tesla coil i would suggest that you choose another project. Tesla coils are extremely dangerous and will kill you when you do mistakes. If you still want to build one read @tikker safety advises or go for a finished DIY kit like oneTesla
