Hey guys,

since I will be moving around a lot within the next few years, I plan on getting rid of my gaming tower (even if it hurts a lot) and purchasing a thin & light gaming laptop so I can be portable.

Basically, money does not really matter that much since I can write electronics off and end up effectively paying around 50% of the actual price and I'll sell my tower, so I should come out pretty much even.

So far, I'm mostly considering the ROG Zephyrus GX501 vs the Acer Triton 700. However, both these devices have been on the market for around half a year already, so I'm afraid of dropping a lot of cash on something that will be outdated soon. I just wanted to check on your opinion of the current market situation. Is it still clever to buy such a laptop now with the new 8 series Intel processors and the Nvidia Volta up-and-coming?

I could wait around a month max with my purchase, any chance of upgraded models appearing in this time frame?

Also, GX501 vs Trtion 700, which one would you pick and why? Or maybe something completely different?

Thank you so much for you opinins!

Neither. Both are toasters and super overpriced. What's your budget and what are your requirements? Also, what's your preferred GPU?

Keep in mind that thin and light laptops usually have high surface temps and high fan noise. Depending on model, these can be still acceptable. But not those with 1080 Max-Q.

So, my Budget caps somewhere around 3000€ so I'll end up paying around 1600€-1700€ (yay for write-offs/taxbacks) and I need something thin and light enough to comfortablely fit into my backpack since I switch workplaces pretty often (so no 17"), while still packing high firepower (I'm doing video-rendering/very heavy photo-editing and design). At the same time I want to be able to play games on as high as possible. 120Hz+ preferred, high quality display (the more Adobe RBG the better for my graphic design), thin and low weight, not tooo gamery. Ofc battery power would be nice, but I'm aware that that's usually not possible with this combination, and I should have power outlets available 99% of the time anyways.

I know this sounds quiet impossible, but this is only the optimum and the closer I can get to it, the better. I think there should be something possible with that budget.

Thanks!

Gigabyte Aero 15/15X - good battery life, only 60Hz panel

MSI GE Raider - don't worry about the TN panel, it's a very high quality panel, even beats some good IPS panels
