Windows explorer shows wrong capacity.

Hello, I have a 3tb hdd. Disk management shows I have 2.79 tb of storage, but windows explorer shows I only have 2.72 tb (capacity).

Where did those 70gb go? There are no files on the disk. Also I'm using windows 10.

That's how much storage you have, what's wrong with that.

it shows GiB while your disk is rated with GB
1024 MiB = 1 GiB

1000MB = 1GB

 

1GiB is larger than 1GB by a tiny bit

the missing GB were most likely used for hidden partitions for system recovery and the such, not to mention that the measurements for data storage have 2 standards, so its a mix

Not much at all is "hidden" space. It's is as it is: https://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=3+TB

There is a tiny amount hidden (100mb?) of the main OS drive if using the likes of Windows as a partition. However, if a second drive, it will format the full usable disk space/partition.

 

Which suggests you actually have a little extra in there.

Yeah, so Windows is reporting correctly... I've no idea where/how/why 2.79 is shown?

But also manufacturers and windows use different GB.

1024 MiB = 1 GiB

1000MB = 1GB
