Intel Xeon e5520

Go to solution Solved by M300843499,

A server board may be cheaper than buying consumer. As is ECC ram.

you should have gone with a X5650, 6 core, 12 thread and can be bought for under $50AUD.

Personally i have a bunch of different 1366 Xeons (X5670, W3670, W3570, X5650) and by far the 6 core Xeons are the ones to have these days.

For example the X5650 overclocked to 4GHz matches the cinebench score of an i7 4770K @4.5GHz and can play any game i throw at it.

I use an EVGA X58 3-Way Classified with my Xeons and i have also used a GA-X58-Extreme (Which i purchased for a friend) and both boards run amazing with the Xeons and overclock very well.

Really any X58 board should support your CPU assuming it has had its bios updated. You should look for something like an X58-UD3 in my opinion for what you will be using it with.

Will either of those boards be able to support pc3 10600r ram though?

oh sorry, i didnt realise it was Registered memory, i dont think it will work no, you will most likely need a server board.

if you want something in the ATX form factor then maybe the Fujitsu D2778 will suit your needs, it supports ECC ram im pretty sure.

tbh id just get a consumer X58 board and use normal DDR3
