Can I get a better laptop for under a 1000

does anyone have anything better for the price or performance

Go for it. One of the best budget 1060 laptops out there with good build quality and cooling. Specs in the model above are excellent. Just keep in mind that the 1060 is Max-Q variant, however you can tune it to near a 1060N due to good cooling.

This also has the added benefit of being able to get prema mod if you'd like it so that 1060 can shine

I would suggest a repaste with something like thermal grizzly kryonaut though.

N850HP6 mentioned above and N950KP6 are good choices too, but they need repaste
