Yes.  I can't figure out dates.

I googled it.

I chatted Microsoft Support.

I called Microsoft Support.

Useless.

In short - everyone are familiar with this thing that you create a file and it shows the creation date, right? This feature is around for a while now.

So I do everything according to plan:

  1. Create a file. Whatever file. psd/max/txt/ai/... you name it.
  2. I open the file and modify it.
  3. I spam the save button.
  4. Enjoy my new & unwanted "Date Created" value which is always identical to "Date Modified".

This really hurts my workflow.

Anyone have a clue why this keeps happening?

Oh and it happens on 2 different systems. So I'm not sure anymore.

It can be that the program you are using doesn't modify the file, but instead it deletes the entire file and writes a new file with the same name.

Could be. I follow your logic.

But it happens in Photoshop, Illustrator, 3Ds Max, AutoCAD... even happens with a notepad.

So I don't think it has something to do with those programs that I use.

I think i have had the same bug, but i dont care about the file creation time, and if i truly need to know it i put it in the name like so filename13032018.extension That is the safest way to have it, if it is really important just write it down. The windows dates have always been pretty buggy.

Yes, I could write down dates in the filename, but this is not the kind of workaround I want to make.

And it will be confusing for some of my colleagues.

I guess working dates is too much to ask these days. :(

I will try to format as a last resort but I really don't want to do this.

You could have a giant excel file, where you put the file name and the creation date for said file. This way you dont have confusing file names, but if anyone asks the date you need to search it. Not a ideal solution too... I also checked and my file dates are also pretty screwed up, luckily i dont need to care.
