Lag when unlocking IPad

MrRemnant

I was given the iPad (2017) for Christmas and it has worked fine till now. Whenever I unlock my iPad, it goes to the homescreen (as it should) but freezes for a few seconds. I have no idea why. This issue has only come up recently. When it freezes I can’t do anything but wait. Any ideas?

Have you tried a reset?

  1. Tap Settings, then General. Scroll down until you see Reset.
  2. Tap Erase All Content and Settings. ...
  3. Now you will have to enter your Apple ID password. ...
  4. The reset process can take a minute or two, after which you'll see the welcome screen asking you to swipe to continue.

I don’t want to have to redownload everything/ go through all the setup again.

If it's a software issue that may solve it. However if it's just that the iPad is slow, upgrading to iOS 11 will make it worse... can you send me your model? You can find it in Settings - General - About

If you update it and it doesn't work, then do a hard restart. If that doesn'twork take it into an Apple Store and show them. I have always had good experiences with just having my device be swapped over.

That has an A9, same SOC that's in an iPhone 6S, it should be fine. I'd ask the Apple store to take a look, it's likely still in warranty so it's free.

There are two types of reset, a "hard reset" and a "soft reset"  The difference between the two is that a "hard" reset completely wipes the device back to a factory state while a "soft" reset does not get rid of any of your software, apps, settings, or contacts.
