Hello,

I recently got a new hard drive i would like to add to desktop tower to expand my storage. However, i have no idea what im doing. i have a maxtor diamondMAx Plus 9 160GB sata/ 150 HDD to install into a lenvono pc running windows 8. any help is appreciated. if you need anymore info let me know. Thanks

Welcome to the forums!

 

First, you're going to want to check your PC for a power cable that looks like this.

Most power supplies have multiple of these connections. Connect this power cable to your new drive. Then, you're going to want to grab a SATA III cable and connect that to your drive. You can find an example of such a cable at https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B009GUXU52.

You're going to need two cables attached, as depicted in the reply above. One is the SATA power, it goes to your power supply, and the other is the SATA data cable, this one goes from the drive to the motherboard, this is how the drive communicates with the rest of the system.
