PC speaker bar

AGrider

Ive been looking to replace a set of aging Creative T7900 7.1 speakers. Ive been pretty happy with the soundbar/sub I have for my TV and was wondering if anyone was using a TV style soundbar/sub with their desktop. I already have a nice set of headphones, but would prefer to have open air sound. If the soundbar idea is horrible, what are some good options for a decent set of computer speakers?

Lets play connect the dots!

I have a Sony surround sound system meant for home theater hooked up to my PC. I use it for movies and sports but use my headset for gaming.

For soundbar, I think a 3.1 system like the Samsung HWK650/651 should suffice. I'd gotten one for myself, but it'd be used with the TV I'd gotten for my new place. I demoed a few such soundbars, 2.1's seem to lack clarity when it comes to dialog in any given movie, with the HWK651, I found I was able to hear the dialog better even though the scene may be 'busy' in that the scene had other noise that threatened to drown out the dialog. Makes sense since there's the added center speaker(s), 2.1's lacked this clarity in dialog.

This marks the first time I'm getting a soundbar, if space is a constraint, then soundbars are great alternatives to separate speaker setups. Even for so-called 5.1 soundbars, don't expect it to match a separate 5.1 speaker setup when it comes to surround effects. I have heard good things about Dolby Atmos soundbars, but those are pretty expensive.

I have that samsung on my tv currently and really like it. Its what made me want to look into using them for a computer. I was more worried that the design wouldnt lend itself to close proximity listening due to how the speakers would be tuned.
