NAS Specifications

Planning to offer some Dedicated NAS storage servers as part of an upcoming business I've been working on.

Planning to offer five rates ranging between 5TB-100TB (5, 10, 25, 50, 100)

Haven't found any info on the best CPUs for small to large scale RAID configs

Would anyone mind drafting out some specs for 5TB model? I plan to offer the model as a storage solution, but I don't want an absolute crap CPU. Would you use a low end consumer CPU like a Celeron or Pentium or splurge on a Xeon E3 v 5? (preferably for the higher models; need a pratical ROI time)

When you say practical ROI time, you are planning to do this as a cloud service? What is your selling point other than your storage is dedicated? Reason I ask is because it makes a difference on the hardware you choose. Also you don't say your OS or configuration either. I you want windows server then you need more CPU than a custom striped down version of Ubuntu or CentOS.

Assuming you are planning this as a cloud service with a 1Gb connection speed running Ubuntu full blown no mods. Running a RAID 5 array with 4 drives in it. I would say the lowest end Xeon you can find NEW. Now if this is sold to consumers like a Qnap is, you would get away with a much slower processor. I can't speak to them much model and company wise since I deal with mostly E5 Xeons and above. Though I do use some E3's too.
