microSD + adapter vs SD cards

I noticed that there are a lot of high speed microSD cards compared to SD cards. Which one is better (more reliable)? Is there a reason that manufactures like samsung are pushing out more high speed microSD cards rather than SD cards?

Because there's a greater demand for microSD cards being that they can be used in anything that a standard SD card can be used in. The only potential problem with the microSD+adapter is that the adapter could potentially be garbage -- so as long as you buy a decent adapter then it should be fine.
