Read-only SD card

Hi!  I have been trying to install raspbian on an SD card so that I can play around with my pi, but the SD card I bought and the other ones I tested are read only. Because I am on a Linux distro, I have tried using chmod,  formatting it to ext4 but it still does not allow me to burn an ISO image. Please help.

I don't know if it is this simple, but there is a switch button to lock the sd card. Maybe that is your problem?

Nope,  unfortunately that's not my problem.
