2.5" HDD booting problem

I have a gigabyte ga-h55m-sh motherboard, I can easily boot off a 3.5 hdd but I removed the hdd from the laptop I use a lot and tied to boot off of it and the system just shuts down and restarts. Has anyone had this problem before? When I boot off the 3.5 inch drive I can access files from the 2.5 inch one but for some reason cant boot off of it. Would I have to wipe the drive and re-install the OS with the desktop?

It Could be that the OS Drivers installed on the 2.5 inch drive is not compatible with the gigabyte motherboard, you did state that it was removed from a laptop.. so it is trying to load the laptop hardware drivers, which is failing.

If you want to use the 2.5 in in your desktop, format it.
