System setup:

Asus Prime Z370-A, Intel Core I7 8700

GPU 1: Galax 1080Ti + Kraken X62

GPU 2: Gigabyte Auros 1080ti Waterforce exterme

Windows 10 Pro (fully updated)

I control the machine using VNC

Problem 1 :

the Intel HD 630 is not installed unless I connect a cable to it. Which causes the next problem

Problem 2: Some process (Desktop Window Manager - Not sure what's that, VNC server) are using GPU0 (aka, Galax), I don't want it I want it to work only via the HD 630 or CPU only. I don't want anything working on the dedicated GPUs but my rendering, there are no cables connected to any of them, I installed Windows using the HD 630, but right after I removed the cable it disappeared from the device manager.

Problem 3: I'm a Mac person, I don't know much about Windows (and don't have any opinion about it)

I'm attaching a screen shot from this morning, but it's still the same after fresh Windows install (had to do it anyway)

For clarity, you want your monitor to be driven by the Intel GPU, and you want your 1080TI to be used for rendering?

Wouldn't this mean you want to plug your monitor into the motherboard's video outputs, and tell the rendering program you use to use the 1080TI specifically. (In blender this is file->preferences->system)

You can force your intel gpu to "enabled" in the bios and it will appear even when a monitor isn't connected. If you have the igpu set to "auto" it only turns on when connected to something.

I do this so I can get quicksync encoding on my machine without needing to change from having my monitor connected to the dedicated gpu.

However - remember that the percentage of usage shown in task manager is based on the *current clock speed* of the gpu. If the machine is idle, it'll look like a high value, because the card will have downclocked to ~165mhz core and ~400mhz ram.

Try forcing the igpu on in bios and see if DWM (desktop window manager) starts rendering on the igpu instead. I've never explicitly tested that kind of configuration though, so it may still end up running on one of your gpus.

steps:

Connected a monitor to check bios, igpu was enabled. Logged to windows (Still monitor attached), in Task Manager still see DWM uses GPU 0, but seems like GPU0 is the igpu. Disconnected the monitor. My rendering seems to be a bit faster, so I wont restart the machine for now.

Also, my machine is idle only when I do maintenance (once a month to clean cats from it)
