im just wondering about upgrading an old Lenovo PC (think centre) it currently has a Pentium G850 and I want to upgrade to something that will pair nicely with a GTX 1050. I was searching and found for reasonably cheap an i5 3470 (3.2Ghz). Is this gonna work with the gpu or will I experience bottlenecking etc? I just generally want to play some not really intensive games (think PS3 era and below) if I can play some newer games then that’s just gravy. The other big thing is emulator, I’d like to adequately run, Dolphin, PCSX2 & Bizhawk.
I’ve attached a photo of the mobo I have presently. It’s an LGA1155 socket!
I don't know if the i5-3470 (Ivy Bridge) would fit the motherboard even though it's socket 1155. In general, aftermarket H61 motherboards support Sandy Bridge processors (like the i5-2500 @NWhite4720 mentioned) but would require BIOS update to support Ivy Bridge processors. Not sure if a Lenovo pre-built motherboards behave the same. Hence, safer bet would be picking up used Sandy Bridge processors* unless you done research.
*you could also look at i7-2600 which is equally beast!
