A few months ago my computer started acting up. My display would randomly disconnect and I would lose sound through my headphones. At the time if I would take out the GPU out and put it back in, I wouldn't have a problem for a few days, but eventually it just stopped working entirely and would no longer connect. At that time I moved my GPU out and placed it in my old motherboard (this had an AMD processor and ddr3 RAM everything else was the same) which gave me video back, but when I launched certain games some times my computer would crash completely. Although there the computer would just completely shut off. A few days ago I moved my GPU back in to the motherboard which was causing problems originally and the monitor is "working" again, but now the computer will just shut down and restart completely.

This only happens when gaming and not during normal use. I have tried different PSUs, updating all drivers, scanning for viruses, I have checked temps on both the CPU and GPU both are normal even when in game, I have optimized hard drives, and made sure my RAM wasn't causing any problems.

I am considering trying a new motherboard, as I don't have an old one will accept my current CPU and RAM, but before I do that I would like to know if I that is the proper course of action.

I have read that it might be a failing GPU, but I really would like to try everything else before I throw out a couple hundred dollars on a new GPU.

Thanks!
