7.1 or 5.1.2

Ok so I am looking on Amazon and I found a onkyo home theater system that is able to do Dolby atmos but if I do atmos it's 5.1.2 or Should i just go with 7.1. Any recommendations on which you would recommend. I can't really afford to buy a system piece by piece but would it be advisable to buy the one system for $1,300 then sell that reciever and buy a atmos 9.1 reciever and buy the last two speakers down the line?
