It's an Apple machine, you're not supposed to update Apples.  They want the users to return their machines to Apple so they can do it and then charge you outrageous prices.  Garaunteee self employment for them.  Sorry, can't spell gaurantee.

Shouldn't you be able to just update through the App Store?

Try this.

Click the Apple symbol in the top menu > about this mac > software update. If there's an update it should take you the Mac App Store to then download it & install.

I had some issues updating my 2014 MacBook Air to MacOS High Sierra when it first came out, took like a month for it to show on mine for some weird reason.

Case: Ncase M1 V5 Black CPU: Intel Core i5 12600 MB: AORUS Z690i RAM: 16GB Kingston HyperX DDR4 SSD: WD SN770 500GB | WD SN750 250GB

Cooler: Noctua NH-L9x65 GPU: EVGA RTX 3070 XC3 Ultra 8GB PSU: Corsair SF600 80+ Platinum Fans: Noctua NF-F12x 2 | Noctua NF-A9x14

The one in the image looks to be a pre-retina display one, so 2012 and earlier. The MagSafe 1 and thicker body gives it away. I do recommend what others have said and find out what it is in "About This Mac" from the Apple menu, from there we can tell you exactly what macOS versions you can run and which you can't. If it is a 2014 MBP, you should be able to run 10.13.1 with absolutely no problem. If it's a 2012 or earlier, you're more limited. As of now, you can run 10.13 on any MacBook Pro from 2010 onward. If you can give us any information on your current system that would help a lot. Like its been said, you should also just be able to open the App Store and on the Updates page see available macOS updates, or go to the main App Store page and there should be a link to macOS High Sierra's store page as well.

As good of a joke it is, the software updates are fine, it's the hardware upgrades that they want you to return it to them for. Everything's soldered on or inaccessible to the end user. That's why I got myself a 2012 non-retina MacBook Pro, the last that was user serviceable.

Not actually the database software, just some furry. Vintage tech enthusiast, has more old tech than they know what to do with.

Main system: i5-4690k, 16GB DDR3, 2x120GB SSD, 2TB HDD, CD-ROM Drive (in 2017 lol), R9 270X 2GB, Windows 7

Laptop: MacBookPro9,1, i7-3615QM, 8GB DDR3, 256GB SSD, GT650M 512MB, macOS 10.13
