Hey guys. I currently have a dual monitor set up and everything works fine.... until I disconnect one of the Monitors.

So basically what happens is, if for some reason I want to use just one monitor (for example when going to LAN Parties), it starts working fine for a moment but at random times, what happens is suddenly the whole monitor changes to a random solid color. If I am talking to my friends on Discord for example, I can still hear them talking for a while after this happens, but then the whole computer crashes and I have to restart the whole system.

For troubleshooting I have:

- Connected both Monitors alone

- Tried both HDMI and DVI connection

- Changed the cables

- Updated my graphic card drivers

My graphic card is quite old - XFX Radeon HD 6950.

This is not a real urgent issue for me because I am soon going to upgrade to a new system, but I would like to give this one to my father.

Again, this is a very strange issue as it only occurs when I use a single monitor. Never happens when I am using both Monitors. Both monitors are connected with a dvi cable (no adapters).

Thanks!

go into display manager and set to single monitor mode

being older card it may not autoswitch nicely

note are you in clone display mode or independent?

clone mode should not see this issue

@bcguru9384 by clone mode do you mean showing the same display on both monitors? if that's the case then no I am extending the displays. But as soon as I am home I will try what you said and will let you know! Thanks!

yup thats clone mode and did not expect you were using it

hope it is that simple
