Hi Guys, I currently have a laptop (i5-2300 or something like that) that's overrun with bloatware, malware, etc. But I want to restore it. I have the windows boot image but for some reason there's a TON of error codes (0x80072EFD - 0x20000). Googling doesn't help.

Is there any way to restore or reinstall Windows 7 on this PC? It says to restore using disk image but I lost the one that came with my laptop. The brand is Lenovo P580

Do you have a full version of Windows on a disk?
If so then just do a normal format.

It's not a race to the bottom.

Just a bit of advice, reinstalling windows on top of a virus ridden machine will not fix your errors at all.

You will need to fully format the drive (Maybe even to the extreme of getting an outside company to do so) if you really wanna keep that drive.

If not, replace the drive and reinstall windows on that. If you don't have a license key, you can buy these online for cheaper than usual since the Windows 10 boom!

Yeah, I want to fully format the drive, then reinstall windows on it.

Would it be possible that I erase completely everything, then I reinstall Windows on it?

So this is what I've done so far on the laptop. I have a Windows 7 DVD Home Premium that I can use.

1. I've tried going into the BIOS and booting from the Windows DVD. I get the message from Windows Boot Manager that it Windows failed to start, the status error being 0xc000000d. Then it says boot failed DVD-ROM and my computer goes to Windows. I tried using chkdsk which failed and I'll go into that a bit later.

2. I've tried opening up the setup software when I'm booted onto Windows 7 and try to go from there. When I run the setup, everything seems fine when the "Setup is copying temporary files". After a while, it says "Windows Setup experienced an unexpected error. To install Windows, restart the installation. Error code: 0x0". Googling up the issue tells me to use chkdsk, and I did run chkdsk /f in Command prompt. After a restart, Windows tells me there are no issues with the drive, but I keep on getting the same message.

3. I've also tried using the "Reinstall Windows" option in Windows 7 itself. After going through some menus, it gives me the message that "Windows could not display the images avaliable for installation". I run chkdsk, same result happens.

Any other ways? This is all I know and as far as I've googled but it seems that I cannot reset it by this means. I honestly don't want a fancy solution. Is it possible to basically just format the drive then reinstall windows? I'm sure there's a option like that in Windows 10 that lets you erase EVERYTHING and start fresh again but it doesn't appear to be in Windows 7.

Use a Windows 7 USB install after formatting the disk.

I tried that. When I got to the BurnAware step, I tried to create an ISO from my windows disc, but then it said "Write Process failed (unrecovered read error)"

What Burnaware step do you mean? Are you installing from USB and, if so, did you use the Windows Media Creation tool? Also, did you check to see whether your USB is locked, as some do come with an option to lock them so that they can't be overwritten?
