M2 ssd not working

I got a samsung m2ssd 250gb and wanted to move my storage from my 2tb wd hdd drive(used less than 250gb of space) the hdd drive is from a prebuilt hp which i took out, i cloned my storage onto my ssd but i cant get the two drives to boot simultaneously nor does the m2 ssd boot alone. What should i do?

Go into BIOS and check boot order. Then remove the HDD and see if it works

I did that but the ssd wont boot and if i boot together the screen flickers on and off, my friend suggested i reinstall windows 10 on my ssd then copy the files of my ssd on a external and then set up the pc like its new and download my old files - will that work and is there a quicker/easier option?

You could put the HDD files onto a external then wipe the HDD and M.2, Then reinstall windows on the m.2 then transfer files onto the HDD. M.2 drives to have very high read/write speeds anyway

M.2 is just a connector, the protocol can be either NVMe or Sata

No, it is most definitely NOT always NVMe. There are SATA-based M.2 SSDs.

NVMe M.2 SSDs need a lot more setup for use as a boot drive.

Why do you have a 960 Evo? It's complete and total overkill for consumer use.

I wanted an m2 ssd and the 960 evo seemed the best option

It's very expensive for what it is. You could probably get a 480GB+ Sata M.2 for the same or similar money.

True but im slowly upgrading my pc to make it overkill so i got the 969 evo for £100

Still pretty expensive.

 

A Crucial MX300 M.2 would'v saved you like 30 pounds... that's enough for a decent aircooler or a couple games. (Or 1/2 a AAA game).

 

And a 525GB MX300 would've only been 35 pounds more.

Not much i can do now though, ill keep it in mind tho thanks, how do i set up the nvme ssd? Should i still do what drbonemcoy suggested?

I did what you said and now wheb im trying to download/install chrome it just restarts with windows saying i ran into a problem. Help?

I'm unsure, ive googled the problem but can't find anything. That's really strange
