Use cases:

 - I am setting up a camera system for our house, so up to 7 cameras being stored 24/7, and possibly encoded.

 - A few game servers, like 1 or 2 minecraft servers, that'll probably be dead most of the time anyway. Factorio, space engineers, and some other game servers. Most likely won't run all 24/7 however.

 - A secondary database for backups. Don't worry about size of this, it's not like a enterprise size DB, it's smallish, like up to 100 GB database.

 - A file server, ftp access, or as a NAS.

Location: Eastern Canada

Budget:

maximum: 3.5k$ - 4.0k$ CAD, I want to save as much as possible though.

Currently i have these picked out:

 - Memory

 - Motherboard - A decent motherboard as far as i am aware.

 - CPU - Threadripper 1920x, I'd like to stick with this CPU as it gives me lots of headroom for camera footage processing, game servers, database, etc.

 - Case (I am going with this for like 99% sure, unless people can find me a better one on amazon, newegg, or ncix) I want to stick with a 4u case with hotswappable bays, at least 12 bays.

 - Cooler - Noctua fan that would fit inside a 4u case.

I am going to start with soft-raid with a few drives that i have already, but plan to later on add up to 12 drives for redundancy, once i have more of a budget, along with a raid controller, but ignore that for now.

I also need help with picking out a power supply, one that would supply the following:

 - the threadripper cpu

 - A graphics card (hd 7770 2gb, and possibly a gtx 1060 later on once i get a new one for my desktop), the GPU won't really be used except for a single monitor for controlling it at most.

 - up to 12 hard-drives (7200 rpm probably),

 - all the fans

 - motherboard

 - a raid controller

 - a network card (I may end up getting a network card, recommended by a tech friend to use them instead of the motherboard)

 - more if i am forgetting anything.

Any problems or advice would be appreciated.

why not look for a server chassis with redundant power supplies? this way you would be getting redundancy

Price i guess was the reason, i could not find any good case with hotswap bays, 4u form factor and wasn't ridiculous price that included the power supplies. But this is why i am posting, so i can get some advice before buying.

you might be able to look at surplus companies if you are close to Toronto, Ottawa or Montreal they have a bunch, and might have some decently priced used parts (maybe even XEONs to compete with Threadripper for the price

Before I left Ottawa, there was one in Kanata that I used off Eagleson
