I'm in the market for a new mechanical keyboard that will be used exclusively at work; meaning no RGB and loud mechanical switches. Also don't want anything super "gamer" looking. Has to look like it belongs in an office.

Currently using this Logitech Wireless keyboard but the battery dies very often so I might as well have a wired keyboard.

The keyboard Linus recently reviewed, the Logtech g613 is a solid contender, except it doesn't have LED backlighting, which is something I feel like I cannot do without.

So my question.. is there a keyboard that has:

  • Brown or Red Cherry MX switches (or off brand equivalent)
  • LED backlight or fully customizable RGB
  • Wireless
  • Small set of dedicated macro keys
  • Is NOT edgy looking

Is there such a thing?

If not.. what would you recommend my compromise to be?

These would be my recs. Personally, I'd say if you want silent switches, get browns or blacks. Work means lots of typing, reds are too soft and not very good for typing in my experience.
For work place I think black, basic look is probably the best. If you need macros, and you have a full size board you can always just reporogram some of the F keys to what ever you need in software.
I put the pok3r in since you didn't specifiy if you need a full size board.
If you go backlight I would say either RGB or white backlight. I don't get why you need a backlight for work though, I'd keep the backlight off.

Sometimes we don't turn the lights on in my corner of the office because.. we like to code in the dark? I guess? I don't really NEED a backlit, it's just personal preference I suppose.

I guess I didn't specify before, but I'm a software developer and I've grown pretty dependent on some function keys, so going with something as small as the pok3r wouldn't be ideal.

I know that DAS Keyboards are quite professional looking with no crazy backlighting etc. Also, some cooler master Keyboards with a white only backlight look pretty clean.

I you don't want a super loud keyboard I'd recommend linear switches like cherry mx reds and and then put o-rings on the stems of each switch to dampen the noise.

I like the clean look of the DAS, never heard of the brand before. Just wish their 'non-gamer' oriented models had some macros.

Probably like the Filco or CM or something like that. Pok3r's got 3 layers of layout editing so you can do some pretty crazy things with it (But I def get not wanting a 60% board)
Maybe a Blackwidow if you want dedicated macro keys. Maybe a Ducky Shine 3 is something to consider. I also didn't realize you were looking for wireless. I think there are maybe 2 wireless mech keyboards, and they aren't that great.

Wireless makes it a bit tricky, along with the macro keys, I think the easiest option would be to compromise on that, a lot of mechanical boards have a macro layer. filco does some wireless boards, along with hhkb, there is also the anne pro at the cheaper end of things, I'm not certain on whether or not that one is programmable though.
