Hey.

So some of you may know the story behind my old motherboard, and some of you don't. Well I managed to spill thermal paste into the socket of my original motherboard, and I RMA'd it. So until I get it back, I had no choice other than disassemble my old computer and use my old motherboard, CPU and SSD. This is an Asus P8Z77-V LE PLUS with a 2600k. Now, the problem I'm facing right now is that I can't find my CD with all the drivers on it. So I snatched my old SSD and managed to get online with an ethernet connection. I downloaded the LAN drivers from Asus support site, and I put the files on a portable USB drive. This is where thing gets weird. I boot up my new SSD (from my new computer) and I tried to install the LAN driver, but still, I get no connection. So, I have installed pretty much any driver from the Asus site, and I still can't get the new SSD to work with the motherboard.

Any tips? I know this was hard to read, and a weird situation, but basically, I can't find the right drivers that work with my new SSD. It works with my old SSD, but not with my new one. Any tips? :)

Regards, xWhiip

(BTW)

Both SSD's have Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit

This is where I downloaded the LAN driver from, and all the other stupid drivers.

I am not sure if i am flowing this fully but are you trying to use the os from the new build in the old one and its not working?

if so i would suggest looking in the device manger and seeing if the Ethernet card is even been detected.  (make sure its not disabled)

if you have switched chip sets you will need to update that 2.  if this is a new os install you will also need to update the chip-set.  that may allow the on-board Ethernet to show up.

Check the BIOS settings, make sure the LAN controller is enabled.

If you used the motherboard, cpu, ram & ssd from the old build, I would have thought that nothing would have to change. There doesn't seem any point of installing onto the new ssd until the new motherboard is in place because a fresh install will have to be done when that happens.

Yeah I know this was somewhat hard to understand. I barely understood it myself. But this is what happened. I was cleaning my new computer and I managed to spill some thermal paste into the socket. I sent it back to the store, so I could get a new one. I took the old motherboard and CPU from my old computer and put it in the new one. Now, obviously the SSD from my new computer does not have the same drivers as my old computer (it has Asus Maximus VI Extreme drivers) and I am trying to install drivers for my old motherboard on a new SSD. (I know, mindtwister) The problem I am facing now is that I can't seem to get the drivers for my old motherboard to work on my new SSD. :)

You need to do a clean install on the new SSD, i.e. quick format the drive and reinstall Windows. Then you should be able to load the necessary drivers for the old motherboard.

The alternative is to not use the new SSD, since it will have to be reformatted and a new install performed when the new motherboard is installed. instead simply install the old motherboard and old SSD.

Ah, okay. I think the old drivers from my VI Extreme is ruining for the old motherboard somehow. LAN Controller was enabled in the BIOS, so I guess that's how it is. But I will give this a try! :)
