34UC98-W FreeSync question

I wanna buy the 34UC98-W which has FreeSync (all other ultrawides are incredibly expensive where I live so I really cannot afford any other model).

The 3440x1440 resolution and 21:9 aspect ratio ultimately sold me for the use I'll be giving to it. But I also casually game, and since AMD's latest GPU offerings suck hard (and don't seem to be getting better any time soon) and the monitor has a limited 55 - 75 Hz FreeSync range, I was wondering if it would still work if you downscaled the monitor to 2560x1080 just for gaming, using an RX 580 or the upcoming Vega 32. And if it did, what would that range be.
