Originally I wanted to get a Ryzen 5 1600 ($300 CAD) for a build that is in the works. I knew Intel had a good edge in gaming but which processer do I get?

The reason the Ryzen 5 was so appealing to me was because of the stock cooler and the price. So what I am asking is could you recommend me a nice Intel chip, mother board & air cooler. I would spend around $300 on a CPU, $150 on the motherboard, $50 on a after market air cooler.

I am unsure about over clocking but I might give it a try, so a unlocked chip would be nice and a motherboard to support it. I am not talking any crazy over just something simple.

All prices are Canadian dollar

Currently thinking of a Ryzen 5 1600 with a Asus Prime B350 Plus and to cool it just the stock cooler.

thats a good choice :) btw what you will be doing? gaming mostly?

Yes mainly gaming but I do light Photoshop. I figured that an Intel chip could handle that. So might want to get better gaming performance. Right?

not really accurate if comparing intel i5s, ryzen 5 1600 dominates in my opinion & provides better value to your money. if you prefer intel then you should wait for coffeelake release next month :) if you want to build now, go with something like this. you can slight overclock with stock cooler. if still want after market cooler, then cryorig h7, h5 ultimate , dark rock 3 are some affordable good ones in your budget.

The build won't begin until November. So I got time to spare. Maybe I should wait and see. I started this idea of the build before Vega.

in that case you have plenty of time to decide. coffeelake 6 core i5s could be good buy if stay in good price.
