Hello, I am a sound noob in terms of hardware other than gaming headsets. I want to amp it up and have better audio for music and gaming. I was wondering what I should look for? An external DAC or an internal card or something else. I have a budget of ~$200 less is preferred. I was looking at ASUS and Creative Sound as potential choices for example:

Sound BlasterX G5

Sound Blaster Zx

Sound BlasterX AE-5

STRIX RAID PRO

I am planning to pair this with a Logitech G433 as my gaming headset and am looking for a decent set of audiophile head phones and have no budget for this yet but suggestions are welcome!

Thanks!

Those all suck and no point in getting something for the g433.

Well we kinda need a budget for the headphones and then you also need to say what kind of sound you are looking for,  do you want a V shaped sound with elevated bass and treble or do you want a more balanced sound or a warm lush sound or maybe a clean "neutral" sound and so on.

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

Laptop: ThinkPad P50: i7 6820HQ, M2000M. ThinkPad T420s: i7 2640M, NVS 4200M

Feel free to pm me if you have a question for me or quote me. If you want to hear what I have to say about something just tag me.

Then what would you suggest for a DAC, AMP, or internal sound card? If I'm also seeing that you have a clear knowledge of audio (please no unnecessary jargon btw) I use a mic with XLR output so I would like something that can handle that (I've just been using a cheap audio mixer so far and I don't know if that is the best way forward. I would like something all around in terms of headphones. I am in the price range of ~$150.

Well just get a schiit fulla 2 and for headphones, do you have a need for isolation or not? Just keep using the cheap mixer for the mic. No sound card would have what your mic needs, so you would have to get a microphone interface, which your current mixer acts like.

I have a rather loud environment near me so I guess isolation would be preferred so that I can actually enjoy what I can hear fully.

Thanks for the help by the way!

well, look at the K553 or K550 MKII, though it is important that they seal well or else the bass becomes meh. The Creative aurvana live! also known as CAL! are also freaking amazing for their price, you can get them for maybe 65-70$, but they are so much better than many 100$ and even 150$ closed headphones. Don't get Creative Aurvana Live 2, those are meh.
