Howdy folks,

I finally got all the parts for my new desktop rig and managed to put them successfully together. However I am running into some problems when setting up CPU and RAM speeds.

Parts:

CPU: Ryzen 7 1700 with stock cooler

MB: ASRock X370 Fatal1ty Gaming K4 updated to BIOS version P3.10 (the latest I found today on the ASRock website)

RAM: Dark T-Force 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-24000C16 3000MHz Dual Channel Kit - Grey

SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 512GB

PSU: EVGA G3 650

Video: Zotac 1050Ti

I managed to get the CPU to 3600 with memory at auto (2133) but I can't get the memory to work at a faster speed. Here is some test data I gathered with AIDA64 Stress Test:

CPU speed CPU Voltage RAM Freq. CPU Max Temp Test run time XMP Profile Status

3600 1.1875 2133 60 45 DDR4-2133 15-15-15-36 (Auto) passed
3700 1.2 2993     DDR4-3000 16-18-18-38 1.35V PC crashed
3600 1.1875 2993 62 7 DDR4-3000 16-18-18-38 1.35V hardware failure - test stopped
3600 1.1875 2800 61 4 DDR4-3000 16-18-18-38 1.35V PC crashed
3600 1.1875 2666 60 10 DDR4-3000 16-18-18-38 1.35V hardware failure - test stopped

As this is my first Ryzen build I would appreciate any tips on getting as much performance as possible out of this machine.

Thanks!

I only have a single profile available for XMP and is listed in the second to last column.

When I tested with the settings of that profile (3 line in the table above: 16-18-18-38 1.35V) it ran the stress test for about 7 minutes then it quit with the message "hardware failure"

Can you be more specific about timings and voltages?

Thanks!

I set the CPU back to auto (3.0 base) and memory to the XMP profile (2993 with 16-18-18-38 at 1.35V). So far is almost 40 minutes into the stress test and I want to see if it reaches 2 hours. If all is right with these settings it then I guess the issues are in fact related to the CPU.

Is the default voltage of the CPU (1.18750) too low? I've seen overclocking videos for the Ryzen7 chips and people were bumping voltage to 1.35 when aiming for 4.0GHz. Now I don't have any hope to get that on the stock cooler, but I think about setting the clock again at 3600 and bump the voltage little by little.

Fixed typo in the voltage value
