How to install Lineage OS on Samsung S5 Neo

Guest

I struggled to get Lineage OS easily so I thought I'd share this

Back your shit up before doing this. NOW.

This works if you don't have a custom ROM yet.

Refer to this guide if you need more help: http://www.cyanogenmods.org/forums/topic/lineage-os-14-1-galaxy-s5-neo-g903f-s5neoltexx-nougat-rom/

1. Root your phone

Should be the easiest step of all

1.1 Turning on USB debugging

  • Go to Settings > About Phone
  • Then tap Build number 7 times to get Developer Option
  • Go back to original settings and you should see Developer Options
  • Turn on USB Debugging and OEM Unlocking

1.2 Downloading tools for PC

> Get Odin, extract the file.

> Get Samsung Drivers, install it

> Check which device model you have in About phone section in settings

Then download the appropriate file and unzip it:

1.3 Download files for Android

> Main Lineage OS 14.1

> GApps for Lineage*

*Lineage OS by default does not come with Google Play store so downloading additional apps must be done via APK. By installing GApps you get Google Play.

The selected is pico, other versions comes with more Google apps to use.

Once files are downloaded, copy/move them to your phone if not already in your phone.

1.4 Rooting

Put your phone into download mode

  • Hold Volume up, power button and home button at the same time until you see a blue screen that ask you 2 options
  • Volume up to continue and volume down to restart
  • Press volume up.
  • Connect phone to computer
  • Run Odin
  • Press AP and browse to the file you downloaded for your device above
  • Hit Start. If done correctly after awhile it should show PASS.

Wait for phone to reboot and you should see SU Root app as a newly added app, if done correctly then you have rooted your phone.

2. Installing TWRP & Lineage OS

I failed to install TWRP the traditional method so I will be doing so via an app on my phone

  • Get TWRP Manager through Play Store. Note it is not created by TWRP team but it would still do fine.
  • Launch app, hit the PLUS button in the bottom left corner and select Install TWRP
  • Select your phone (you can search it), in our case Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo Exynos (s5neolte)
  • Select Recovery version to install, choose the top one since it's the latest
  • Hit Install Recovery
  • It will then download a small file and prompt you to reboot afterwards, do it.

Now you are in TWRP screen

I didn't wipe stuff cause if I do I won't able to get back to TWRP screen at all for some reason.

Hit Install then select the the Lineage OS zip file you downloaded

Swipe it and you should start the installation process, once done you should see phone reboots and load into Lineage boot screen

Finish setting up OS.

Now we need to get Google Apps to get all the feature of a normal Android phone.

Let's reboot back to TWRP. As mentioned above, traditional key combination didn't work for me.

  • Unlock developer options (same procedure as above [Settings>About phone>Tap build number 7 times])
  • Check Advanced restart in Developer options
  • Hold power button to see 3 options: Power Off, Restart and Aeroplane mode
  • Press restart and you should be given multiple options, choose Recovery and press OK
  • Now you are back to TWRP
  • Press Install and now select the GApps zip file you just downloaded, if it's still there...
  • Reboot and you should get Google Apps. Congrats.

Optional: root lineage

Just do the same thing to get GApps above but now use this file

Then enable root access for apps in developer options.
