GTX 1070

JoshPJ

Should I get the Palit Gamerock 1070 or the gigabyte founders edition 1070, I love the look of founders edition and i dont like the blue on the gamerock becuase it doesnt match the colour scheme of my pc howver If im not mistaken the gamerock is a better card, what does everyone think? (the price difference is only £10 between them)

Deal with the mis matched colors. The sound of the founders cooler compared to what you will get with an after market cooler with an AIB card... no contest.

I too were like you, still am. I LOVE the look of the referance cards from Nvidia. But they do indeed make some noice. Luckily i bought some new headphones that remove most of the sound, but still. I have had to put the thermal and powerlimit to max(92C) . Going for an aftermarket cooler is going to be alot less quiet. But in my opinion, none can look as good as Founders :)

Hehe :) What resolution and hz will you be playing at? What it comes down is wheter or not you can live with a little more noice. Which I am fine with, But what will likely happen is thermal throttling. So with auto fan speed it will hit 82C and throttle to keep itself cool, you will loose some fps from this, but this has not really bothered me. I usually have it on 50% fan speed. And mind you, I have not the best airflow in my case, which is almost "suffocating" the front intake.

Oh and this is a little more recent picture, with a light strip and AiO CPU cooler :D

1080p and 60hz, would the msi aero be any quieter?

Nah not really, it uses the same blower style cooling. I would either go for a Founder Edition, or go for a dual fan card. Maybe a MSI Armor card, this is alot quieter. If you have room in your budget. Or try to find a 1070 from EVGA or Asus, which both have good cooling and low noise.

If you can get an evga or asus card without going over £1100 for me that would be nice. https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/ZfzLRG

Really awesome PC! Like that you added 2 extra fans since the S340 don't have intake :) And I see how it can be hard to get anthing but the Founders in there. You have chosen good parts for the rest of the build.

Go with the Founders, I don't think you'll get a better price then 400$. It's not that loud and it looks good. If you want to, you can get a MSI GTX 1060 and loose some performance, but at least you system will be very quiet.

new? I mean if you're not afraid of refurbished you can get some amazing deals from EVGA website. They give a nice warranty period and good customer service too

The 1070s are still way overpriced, but that argument aside I bought a Gigabyte Turbo 1080 and I hate it. I'm not sure how different it is from the FE variant, but their personalized blower style card is utter crap for controlling thermals. I have to run a very aggressive fan curve just to keep it in the mid-80s. Therefore, I don't recommend a Gigabyte blower style card, or any of them really.
