Netflix and lag

radiantai2001

Whenever my mom is watching Netflix, or my brother is playing PS4, my ping gets unbearably high in CS:GO and I don't know how to fix it, I'm using an Arris SBG6700-AC router currently, and I connect through wifi. What should I do/buy to fix this? would Ethernet help? What about a Tri-band router?

Are the streaming over wireless too?

If so then going wired would definitely help.

Maybe, but it's probably just a lack of bandwidth to do all of those things at once. Back when I had a 10 Mbps down/1 Mbps up connection, the same thing used to happen to me. The solution in my case was faster internet service.

Even 40Mbps is more than enough to stream and game to several computers at once.

Is everything wireless or is the gaming and streaming done over wired and you're on wireless?

@Billy_Mays I closed out of everything on by brother's laptop and turned off the ps4 before doing that test, and currently nothing else is connected and in use, so there shouldn't be anything other than mario maker running.

@Lurick Everything is wireless

That would explain it.

Since wireless can only send or receive and have multiple heavy bandwidth things on the network can bog it down. If I remember right, wireless is essentially divided into time slices and the more data being sent the more slices it will consume and in addition it can only send or receive, not both, so if someone is sending or receiving everything else has to wait. You don't have that with ethernet so if you can hook up via wired then you shouldn't have any more issues.
