Hello,

Could you please explain the 1% and 0.1% that people use when benchmarking ?

Many Thanks!

It is explained very well in the video that @legacy99 linked, but in simple terms those numbers represent average of the worst frame times (slowest framerate) of 1% 0.1% of all frames that were rendered in the bechmark, rather than one worst single frame time (lowest ever framerate).

CPU: i7 3770K | MB: EVGA Z77 FTW | RAM: HyperX Savage 2400Mhz 16GB | GPU: R9 280X Toxic | Cooler: Scythe Fuma | PSU: CoolerMaster B600

SSD: Crucial MX300 525GB | HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB - Toshiba DT01ACA300 3TB

I dont care for this 1% 0.1%

Makes no sense

But I get what he;s saying.

I dont care for frame rates b/c I dont play much.

Makes no sense? You'd rather a benchmark that has 60fps on 99.999% of frames to list 1fps as the worst frame rate because there was a single frame spike?

1% and .1% are there to give you an idea that's more representative of the data. .1% gives you the worst that you'll ever realistically notice, and 1% gives a good analysis of how often this happens.

If you don't care for frame rates and frame times then why bother coming in for a discussion about benchmarks?

Linus does do it... His worst frame rates are all 1% lows...

Oh ok

I stopped watching his vids

Too cheesy.

I will now try to find a vid of his with benchmarks and see this new style. Looks interesting, makes sense.

But gaming, I stopped playing WoT, and KuBoom is fucked.

The point of these though is to give an indication of stuttering. It's very detrimental to the gaming experience when you have a lot of stuttering involved, especially in action games. You don't even have to be a hard core gamer to be annoyed by it.

I would rather have guaranteed 30FPS than 60FPS with stuttering out the rear.

I would prefer 2.5% low (z=1.96) ;)

I just did a quick test and I complete agree that .1% and 1% lows are very important. I capped my FPS to the 1% low and it gave me a buttery smooth experience. There is also an added benefit of the GPU using far less power. I think playing at a lower capped FPS (as long as it's above 60), is preferable to a higher high FPS with more variance in frame time.
