Hey guys,

I'm beginning to think the temp sensor on my 5820k is faulty. Some days it's showing my temps at load hovering around 60C-70C and other days 90C-100C. I've replaced the thermal paste several times and am fairly sure the cooler is seated correctly. I'm using the corsair h110i gtx aio cooler. Also, the temp sensor on the cooler itself, is showing a much much cooler temp, similar to the lower temps I had with the cpu. I was wondering if it is possible for the cpu sensors to become faulty, and if so, is there any way to test and confirm the fault?

Cheers

How does the liquid temp compare to your cpu temp? And what are you using to monitor the temps?

Best Excuses:

#1(simple) "Well, I never liked that stupid thing anyway!"

#2(complex) "Obviously there was a flaw in the material, probably due to the inadvertent introduction of contaminants during the manufacturing process."

I had a similar issue... same cpu and same cooler. Turned out my cooler went bad. I bought a cheap 212 evo for like $20 when it was on sale. Put it on to see if it's the cooler or not and turned out the 212 evo was giving me 60c for load unlike the AIO cooler. I doubt it's the cpu sensor.

I don't think it is the cooler though. I've felt both of the tubes, ones hot, which indicates heat is being transfered to the liquid, and the other cool, which indicates that the radiator is doing its job.

yes, i had the same exact thing. One hot tube and one cold tube, but still the temps were extremely high especially during stress test it would hit 100c on even the lowest overclock. Intel has a very good quality control process for their CPU's especial on high end cpu like the 5820k. The only way to know 100% that it's your cooler is to buy a cheap air cooler or just rma it with corsair if you're still under warranty. Corsair will send you a new cooler first so you can install it before sending back the bad one.

here's my post about the same exact problem.

read the comments from DrMikeNZ, he helped me narrow down the problem and he explains it better than I can.
