I have enough old parts for a second build so i thought id try something fun. i have a itx motherboard and a SFX power supply so i have the best parts for this. But i have alot of questions while im waiting for the briefcase to ship. Do i just drills holes and mount the motherboard in there? Should i put the motherboard on something then put it in there? Should i keep the padding on the bottom and sides of the suitcase or rip it out? I heard of people spraying it with ant static spray before putting everything in it, is that something i should definately do? Im using a LCD from a old laptop and a controller board for the top half, how can i mount it so it can swivel in the right spot i want it to be? is there a way to install hindges on the briefcase so it can stay open in a certain position?

Here is the briefcase i ordered and using: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NQ4DLCQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

sorry for all the questions, i just want to be really prepared. If anyone has any links to websites that can answer some of these questions for me that would be awesome. Thank you.

1. You need to remove all the padding on the bottom of the case, drill holes, and use motherboard standoffs when screwing your mobo onto case.

2. Anti-static spray is not necessary as long as you use motherboard standoffs. If it is necessary then we will have them in metal PC cases as well.

3. You can drill 2 holes beneath the original hinges and screw in two big piece of eraser. They should be in a position that stops the case from opening too wide.

Ports. You will need to drill some holes on the briefcase if you want to use USB, for example.

im planning a breifcase build. im looking at similar aluminum tool boxes because they are tough.

Im not planning on drilling anything as this will weaken the box.

Im going to cut out motherboard and PCI mounts from an old case and just drop it in.

Ill prob use silicone sealant to secure things and i will aim to keep the padding.

Thanks for the reply! For using the USB ports, i was thinking of cutting out a big square on the side ( the size of the motherboard backplate) and filling it with the backplate and positioning the motherboard there. I dont quite get #3 though. in stead of messing with the hindges, would it be a better idea to get some sort of tiny lcd mount? that way it can swivel up and down and i can position it for a good picture.

Hmmmm, so if i use this so called silicone sealant and rub it all over the padding that would work? I was gana tear it all out but im afraid of it looking really horible lol.

Try cut some plywood to mount your stuff on, line the box with ply if you can.

I would not rip out the foam, not yet, as you said it might look like shit.

Lets say i use your playwood idea. i would be able to mount the motherboard on it, but how you i stick the ply wood to the bottom on the case? Would i bee good with just hotglueing it? i dont know how thick the bottom of the briefcase is, if i screw it in the screws might pop through the bottom of the case and that would look not very attractive.

My plan is to use a cheap case. Cut off what i do not need with a grinder so i have those sheetmetal screw holes for motherboard & gpu. it will also provide grounding/earth.

the plywood is just to fill the gaps so it is sitting in there but it wont be loose.

you can use hot glue. im using a silicone gun coz its just as cheap, a hot glue gun can be messier. i just think a chaulk gun is easier, cleaner & dispenses a thicker line of stickiness.
