RX 480 Loud Fan?

Right around the time that the RX 460 was released, I picked up a SAPPHIRE NITRO+ Radeon RX 480 OC from Newegg (https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202224&cm_re=rx_480_nitro-_-14-202-224-_-Product) Ever since I got it, I have always thought that the fans were a bit loud. Today I further investigated this, and it turns out just one of the fans makes a whining noise. It gets louder the faster the fans are spinning, so it is very noticeable when playing games. I would like to see if there is anything that I might be able to do before contacting their support team and possibly just asking for an RMA.

That could be coil whine, which is caused by the power delivery on the card, not the fans. You might be able to get an RMA but it depends on what Sapphire thinks of coil whine.

Download MSI Afterburner and look at GPU temps, if the fans are loud and the temps are low then just turn down the fan speed

I experinced something similar with my RX 460, but turned down the fan speed to around 1700 rpm with a setting around 65 degrees C  (Using the Radeon program that came with the gpu).

 

Now it is silent and performing great
