My xps 13 has that circle power connector. I tried plugging in my phones usb c charger into the thunderbolt type c port and it didn't charge (might have been the low voltage of the charger but it didn't even register). The Dell thunderbolt dock does seem to imply that with Dell XPS systems, it can charge the laptop via the type c connector though.

I'd be using it connected to a monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Would u recommend the thunderbolt dock or just to get a cheap USB c to hdmi and USB to minimize it to two cables?

I'm still looking for the right solution myself. Thunderbolt dock are rather expensive and usually to big for on the go use. So here is my conclusion right now: if the adaptor is for a stationary setup then a thunderbolt 3 dock looks like the best solution. If it's for an on the go use case (like plugging in your laptop to the conference projector) or for only one or two ports (HDMI, and another type c or something) then a USB c dongle seems like the best option as they are cheaper and more portable. However, I'm unsure what adaptors support charging at the proper voltages through them. Again, I still haven't figured out what I'm getting for my xps so yeah...

Also I found out that you need a charger that can output 19.45V/2.31A to charge the xps over type c. The pixel c charger would work.

Just fully read your post lol. I think the thunderbolt dock would be a more elegant solution but they are expensive. If your monitor is 1080p then I think USB would be fine

Ok. When I have the cash or for Christmas I'll get the thunderbolt dock and a laptop riser.
