hi guys, i just wanted to know what the problem was because i just realized my laptop's GPU was in boost clock. when i boot it up it stays at 405mhz and the memory clock at 800mhz. then after awhile it becomes 1097mhz and the memory clock becomes 2505mhz ( these are all on idle). i tried reinstalling the nvidia drivers and that didn't work. scanning with avast and malwarebytes, nothing found. i really don't know what is going on.

system specs:

HP omen 15 2016

Windows 10 64 bit
i7- 6700hq

Nvidia Gefroce GTX 960m 4gb
8gb ddr4 ram
128gb ssd
1tb HDD

If core clock and memory clock are both set on 0 then the GPU is not overclocking itself. It is just the way it works. When you start the windows the laptop mainly uses the integrated GPU and maybe after a while when it is fully loaded, the laptop switched to the dedicated GPU(which is the GTX960M) and sets the core clock and the memory clock for how much power it needs. Also if you took a look at that clock on the left side, the white little arrow displays that the GPU is not overclocked and it stays at 'base clock' whilst the boost clock is displayed with a red arrow.

hmm i see. but the weird thing is, before this all happened, my gpu stayed at 135mhz core and 400mhz memory when i was on idle.

because of power saving as @themctipers and because the laptop used the internal GPU.
