New 4p rig -> Server Noob

OK guys... I have allmost no idea about server hardware.

Allthoug I would like to get a 4p Opteron Boinc rig. I quite like the Opterons with 8Cores per processor. Does anyone know wich MOBO+CPU+RAM combo gives the "biggest bang for your bug"

For storage I will use a random HDD form my "some hardware crap shelf"

PSU will be a Corsair AX, couse running it 24/7 I can save some money with a 90+ platinum.

 

Allso: Can I use regular gaming cards with this Platform to use for GPU powerd Boinc Tasks?

OSvise I will probably go for the latest Ubuntu

its not a 8 core but you can get a 4p server kit with 6 core fro cheap now with the 6 core cpu,s and motherboard it will cost under $300
