Im always looking for advice on any weak points or overlooked parts to my build.   So far the build has evolved from a mid range into a high end rig.

Any thoughts on what may be a better choice with references to back it up would be appreciated.  I feel all the parts are of good quality but unsure of

if I may have some compatibility issues.

Case   -   Corsair Vengeance C70 in military green

PSU   -   Corsair RM 850 80 Plus Gold

MB    -    Asus ROG Maximus IX Hero Z270 ATX

CPU   -   Intel Core i7 7700k Kaby Lake

Ram   -   Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR4 3000 (PC4 24000)

GPU   -   EVGA 1080 ti FE (I have plans to add the EVGA Hybrid upgrade kit as soon as possible)

SSDs   -   Samsung 850 Pro 128gb OS drive,   Samsung 850 Evo 500gb x 3 storage drives

Fans   -   Corsair ML120 Pro x3,   ML140 Pro x2,   Hydro Series H115i AIO

Some CaseMod sleeved cables and using my Samsung 55 inch KS9000 2016 model 4k tv until the HDR 4k monitors become readily available.

Ive done alot of research over the past 12 months in prep of this build but Im still new to it all and I know I lack the experience that only can be aquired over the years to come.

Pics to come soon as I have the MB and CPU install to happen this weekend.  Using Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut thermal paste on the cpu/aio contact and plan to use it on the EVGA hybrid kit as well.

All looks good to me. You never mentioned a CPU cooler though?

Specs wise it looks fine, but I would maybe recommend going with a little less RAM and SSD storage for now. Prices for them are way way higher than usual at the moment, for several reasons, but are slated to go back down in 2018, so you might be better holding off on them for now and just adding more next year. ML fans are awesome, but expensive. You could definitely get away with cheaper fans, but you can't go wrong with those if you don't mind spending the cash on them. But those are just ways you could save money, rather than anything to do with performance.

Good luck with it, will be an awesome build, have fun!

Well,

I think your research has paid off.

What you have here is probably the best possible scenario for gaming PCs right now. Plus it will be a great multi-purpose and multitasking machine with that RAM and the i7. Especially with the liquid cooler so you can overclock the crap out of that CPU hopefully.

Not sure what's up with the small SSD when you have 3 other bigger SSDs already, but it certainly won't hurt anything. It may be a small help to separate the OS from other programs like games, but probably not enough to notice I think. It does help with keeping your data safe when you have to reformat or reinstall windows so I'm going to go with a solid 'eh, it works' on the small OS SSD.

Go for it, clearly you have thought this out and if you can afford to spare no expenses then this machine will last you a good long while!

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks wzrd, Leadneck.   The AIO is a Corsair H115i.    Fortunately I have all the parts already before the Ram hike happened.   Had on 500gig ssd but realized I would need more.   Found the other 2 on sale cheaper than the equivalent 1tb drive but plan to consolidate to a larger 2tb SSD when I need more space and keep the smaller ones as a back up.

Sorry for the late reply guys but got sick then busy with college but wanted to say thanks for the thoughts you gave.   I think I may end up getting the new NZXT G12 kit for my gpu since I never catch the restock on EVGAs hybrid kit.   I have a 120mm AIO kit ready so seems this may be just as good.

Looks good thought about just getting a after market gpu from msi or evga or somerhing instead of going with a hybrid? I think the after market cards have cooler vrms don't remember if it dose or not when u do the hybrid mod but would save a cupple of bucks and all pascal cards oc about the same unless you are running ln2 becuase the voltage limit is so low on them. Most pascal oc to around 2000mhz just from gpu boost 3.0
