Hey All,

Wasent sure and wanted to ask before I buy but heres the situation.  I have 2 10GbE NICs in two servers and the current SFP+ cable i believe has died because it was working fine last week... It was disconnecting reconnecting in the control panels of my windows server then reconnecting rapidly and now has stopped showing up at all.  All it shows is "cable unplugged".  Do you think I need to buy a new SFP+ 10GbE cable?  If so does it need to specific to a brand or type?  Any suggestions are appreciated. :)

What brand NIC's / Devices are they going to be plugged into, and what length do they need to be.

Here is a option, you could probably find something cheaper on ebay, maybe look for a copper cable. (can't look up ebay stuff at work)

2 x SFP+ transceivers ($16) http://www.fs.com/products/65334.html

1 x Fiber LC to LC cable ($1.30 1m, $1.50 2m)  http://www.fs.com/products/41741.html http://www.fs.com/products/41740.html

EDIT, found the Copper cables on their site, they are cheaper. ($10-$15)

I purchased this just to see if it would work.  It was super cheap and free shipping.  If it does not work I will go with your idea.  Thank you :)

that might work, I know I was told that cables are "tuned/firmware" for specific brands. the copper cables I linked are tested for the brand of NICs you used and are priced similarly. the fiber implementation is "cooler" and allows for longer runs if needed. tell me how it goes.

Seems to work just fine!  Now its all about configuring it in Windows Server.
