Ryzen 5 BIOS update

You do have to update you BIOS to use a Kaby Lake Chip on an 100 Series Intel motherboard for example. And for this motherboard you need at least BIOS version F6 for Ryzen 5 CPU support and at least F3 (first version) for Ryzen 7. So the question is if I can still use the R5 CPU even though the BIOS version that might be installed on the board doesn't support it. Because I don't think you can.

You can use because its the same architecture. The architecture between eg the 6700k and 7700k was slightly different which is why the 170/110 boards need a bios flash.

Think of Ryzen 5 and 7 the same as Kabylake i5 and Kabylake i7 with the different chips making up the i5 (7400, 7500, 7600k) and i7 (7700 and 7700k) ranges

Hello

I want to buy a Ryzen 5 1600 and a Gigabyte B350 Gaming 3. Do I have to pay for a BIOS update to be able to run the R5?

Thanks

No

and

I've never heard of buying bios updates, the only time I've heard of this is for Firmware updates that offer additional functionality on AV receivers, My Denon X4200 is a prime example, I can have Aura 3D audio, but the firmware costs like £100

Oke! I will probably update the bios myself. Thanks.
