I plan on changing my laptops storage from a 500GB HDD too a 128GB SSD since it is literally only used for watching things from a memory stick. It is never connected to WiFi or anything so 250GB would be a waste of money.

My question is, the laptop is running Windows 8 currently.

When I change the storage to an SSD, would putting Windows 10 on it work fine?

Then this will be a piece of cake. Good Luck, and enjoy your SSD goodness:).

Actually I do have a question, when I put windows 10 on there, could I put the product key I use for my desktop on it too? It's not going to interfere or anything is it?

Just Windows 8, although it gives the option of upgrading to 8.1 for free

You can do that, if the Windows 10 key fails. Have you used the Windows 10 key on any other PC than your main? if you haven't, then it should be fine. Else, you can use the other method as a backup.

most likely it will deactivate the Windows 10 install on your desktop.  if you are just using it to play offline storage files then i would recommend something free and opensource.  linux is a great option and there are many version that can mimic the windows feel.

If it only has one use. I could use my key multiple times, but it's a OEM key.
