Chrome on android doesn't allow image uploads

So i have a zte axon elite running android 5.1 atm. 

However recently I've been encountering an issue with google chrome (beta). 

When attempting to upload a file, I'll be prompted for the place I'm attempting to upload from. 

 

Usually, that would be camera and a file directory. However lately, it doesn't offer the possibility to upload existing pictures. I can only upload from my camera, sound recorder, and contacts of all places. I've had this work before, but it only seems to behave properly on very select websites. 

Most of the time i encounter this issue. 

Is there a way to get around this? Such as a custom file upload or the like? 

I quickly checked permissions for chrome and my file manager, and both seemed to have the appropriate permissions. 

 

Is there any way to solve this?
