Any tips for this build

I am building this PC for my friend. It is a gaming pc and he already has a strix 1070 so this is everything else including the monitor and windows license. Right now it is at 900 something dollars and we'd like to keep it right around there if not a little cheaper. My only question is with the motherboard. Since he is gonna have a Ryzen 5 1500x it needs an am4 socket and this mobo was the cheapest one I could find with good ratings but I don't know if it can overclock the cpu and if it can't what is a good am4 mobo under 100$ that can? Also about a week ago someone here sent me a build similar to this one but I changed the mobo because it was micro ATX and even though I know it can fit in this nzxt case I'd rather it be full ATX unless there are some advantages to a smaller one. Also on the one I was sent it had 16 gigs of ddr4 memory which did make it a little more expensive so I switched it out for 8gb. Would he really need 16 for gaming with a 1070?

-You can get windows for cheaper from kinguin

idk about CPU choice.

8GB is perfectly fine, especially if you want to upgrade later.

The mobo you chose (B350) can overclock eprfectly fine.

Want to know which mobo to get?

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

 

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

This chipset (B350) can overclock but can not run multiple GPUs (you would need a X370 chipset).

8GB of RAM would work, but multitasking would exceed that along with video editing.

So been said but 1600 is going to be better, then OC it.

 

Also 8gb of ram is too little for Ryzen. Unlike Intel Ryzen directly benefits from more ram and higher clocked ram. So go 16gb 3200 kit if he can afford it, because it makes a literal difference, (using a ryzen build right now).

No so its just a new platform issue. Most people haven't been able to get anything stable above that on a few different motherboards, but there are people getting 3200 with compatible ram, depending on the board once again, lots of bugs still getting worked out for AM4.

Does he have windows 10 on a separate computer already?

If he has then if he logs in with his windows account then he would be all set.

 

Edit: tried to keep to budget so no 16GB of RAM and no higher ram so this would have to work although you could OC the RAM another step up in bios to 2800mhz or so.

Yeah just looked the most expensive am4 motherboard I could find up. Supports up top 2400 MHZ ram and OC up to 3200 MHZ

So to give you context, I have a 1700x and a 2400 ram kit (3200 in the mail right now). At stock speeds 3.4 ghz for the cpu and 2133 for the ram vs 3.8-9 overclocked its at right now and 2400 for the ram my performance difference in Cinebench was nearly 250 higher for the score, and fps wise I get 20-25 higher FPS which is a significant boost. However if I just overclock the CPU and not the ram, then the difference is much smaller, only 50-100 points in cinebench and 5-10 higher FPS in ram, which has to do with the way the Ryzen Architecture works that Linus went over in the RYZEN 5 video. So more ram, and faster ram directly impact Ryzen Performance.

35% is only in large transfers. When it comes to booting up and launching games there won't be any difference.
