I just think it would be a good practice to put the concerned language(s) between brackets before the topic title when requesting for help. I for example am fluent in C-style languages but mostly useless on web programming languages, so I tend to help people accordingly.

Something like:

[C++] How to make a 5-dimensional array of string pointers

or

[SQL/web] How to prevent SQL injections on LTT forum :P

This should be a pinned rule like code tags imo.

Makes sense. Then you know if you are even capable of helping someone, without going to their thread and seeing it's a language you know nothing about. Great Idea! :D

That's what tags are for? They keep things clean and concise no?

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.

But most people forget them (especially beginners), and language precision between brackets is kinda the go-to way on programming forums. Having a rule mentioned in the banner along code tags might improve that.

I don't see how people will specifically remember this different rule, and as you say, even if it were placed alongside the code tags I still don't see how that will help given that a great many people don't even bother with those.

They will eventually. Just like Hot Deals and Classifieds

That's a good idea, actually.
