laptop problems

BlackBear101

acer aspire v15 (v3 575G-58HX)

intel core i5 6200U

nvidia 940m

4 gb of ram (i upgraded to 8 a few months earlier)

windows 10 home 64 bit

ive been having some problems lately, it only happens sometimes (on some restarts or wake ups from sleep)

the problem, when it does happen, causes the following (from what ive experience so far)

- cant play any video file

- youtube and instagram videos play, but with no audio

- my microphone wont work on google.com, it just shows a white screen with a white mic logo, instead of picking up the sound.

- neither does the recorder app in windows 10 work, just gets stuck on the white logo, almost like pausing the animation same as the google one.

- when i try troubleshooting sound problems by right clicking the speaker icon in taskbar, its stuck at checking audio service status, never moving to the next step.

- also the playback and recording devices dont launch when clicked, nor does sound app.

so ive updated windows to the latest version, going to be updating drivers soon, but idk if i should download the vga drivers from acers website as i have later ones for my nvidia and intel. let me know!

also should i get bios firmware update?

here is the link to my laptops drivers from acer --->  LINK

ive also tried doing an "sfc /scannow"  as others online have recommended it on forums, but when it completed, i get the following error "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log."  something like that

HELP ME PLEASE! about the drivers, how to fix the corrupt sfc files and maybe inturn fix the media problems.

if you are running windows 10, and you are sure its a driver issue, get a backup copy of your ethernet driver, and then uninstall the PCI root complex driver from device manager (what i like to call ripping the spine out) then reboot, if windows already has the driver for ethernet, it will reinstall it after reboot and then proceed to download and install almost every other driver for your system all at once.

im not sure its a driver issue, i was trying to update them because someone recommended it to me on a forum.

sorry to ask, but im kinda a noob at these things, im using wifi, not ethernet, can i still do what you stated? and if so, could you please explain in more detail how? im kinda confused about the first half.

That sounds like it could be useful sometime, Remembering that.

it's a great trick for computers that fall into the category of "i dont care enough to work out why this is broken, i'll just rip its spine out and let it recover for a minute or two"

basically, uninstalling the PCI root complex will remove all drivers for devices that are on the PCI/PCIe bus, which in most cases, is almost everything. All you need to do is ensure that you have a driver that allows you to get on the internet whether that be a wifi driver or ethernet, this is because ripping the spine out will remove networking drivers too. If you are lucky, the driver will be built in to windows and will be reinstalled automatically, but if not, you will need to manually install a network driver, in order for windows update to get the rest of them.

I would probably just do it to any old computer if i thought it was anywhere near a driver issue.

i see, so if i were to save my wifi driver, do i just put it on a usb drive and then insert it after uninstalling the pci root complex?

yh best bet is just to get the EXE installer from ur manufacturer website and chuck it on a stick, if whenj windows reboots, it doesn't have any network drivers, just install the ethernet or wifi driver, then go into wupdate and it will pull the rest from microsoft

okay thanks, ill try that if all else fails!

do you know how to fix the "corrupt files"? because i think that might be the problem, ive looked online for hours and cant seem to find a fix

 i tried the following

another sf /scannow and still got the same issue

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /checkhealth

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

and all of the above again in safe mode. the dism commands say they worked, but the "sfc scannow" still says the same corrupt file error.

any help on how to solve this?

sorry man that a bit beyond me, im a comp sys engineer that works on a tight deadline a lot of the time, soo most of my advice is a bit brutal in terms of how it leaves the PC, basically if it takes more than 5 minutes to fix or i can't work it out, i use my glorious WDS and just clone it back to how it needs to be.

Fixing personal computers is always a pain in the ass for me because i cant just tear the carpets up and start again.
