Go to solution Solved by 3 Lions,

For 2 mins it will be fine though it will come up with 'CPU FAN ERROR' on the BIOS.

Is it safe to run your pc for around 2 minutes to check the bios without cooler?

(Nothing installed)

Cpu: Ryzen 7 1800x

Hmm, I'm not sure on that high end of a CPU, but senseMI should mean you could probably browse on chrome or something similar for a few minutes before serious throttling occurs. Other than that most CPUs can run for up to 5 minutes before serious temp issues arise.

He's only gonna go on the bios so he'd be fine.

I bought a cable kit, but for some reason it didn't fit in my psu although on the website it says it should fit.

Cable kit: BitFenix Alchemy 2.0 PSU Cable Kit, SSC/XFX-Series - Red

Psu: XFX XTR 1050W Black Edition 80 Plus Gold Modular Power Supply - Black

that's a pain, just buy female to male extenders for the last little bit, they're guaranteed to work. It might be because it's an XTR unit, but I've never used either of those companies so I don't know.

Yours faithfully

Depends on the wattage, I wouldn't run a 140 watt CPU without any cooler even for 10 seconds. If you're doing a test bench setup, you can simply throw a heatsink on top of a higher watt CPU without actually running any fan or mounting it. The heatsink will allow heat to spread and dissipate in the open air environment, I've done this plenty. I wouldn't run any stress tests on this kind of a setup though.

You can though it will likely shut off quick when it gets hot. If you have a spare heat sink sitting around, put a little paste on the cpu, put the heat sink on it and put a little pressure to help get a good spread on the paste and you're good for a little while. Not perfect but it does transfer enough heat away to work.

i5 6600k @ 4.4ghz on Hyper 212 Evo

Powercolor RX 480 8Gb Red Devil @1330Mhz

Bottom line:  Don't be a spaz or an 800lb gorilla when installing your expensive CPU, and you won't have any problems. --Phate.exe
